ParaSwap is useful when you want to swap crypto without manually checking several decentralized exchanges for a better rate. With ParaSwap, you choose the tokens, review the quote, and let the DEX aggregator search liquidity sources across supported chains for a route that aims to give you the best available price.
That does not mean every swap is automatically cheap or risk-free. Gas fees, slippage, price impact, token approvals, and the network you choose all matter. A good first swap is not just clicking "confirm." It is knowing what each screen is asking you to accept.
This guide walks through the process so you can make a careful first swap and understand numbers before signing.
Before opening ParaSwap, prepare these basics:
The gas part catches many beginners. If your token is on Polygon, you need gas on Polygon. If your token is on Ethereum, you need ETH for Ethereum gas. Stablecoins can be the asset you swap, but they do not replace the native token used to pay network fees.
Open ParaSwap and connect your wallet. Your wallet will ask for permission to connect. This lets the app read public wallet details like your address and token balances; it is not the same as giving permission to move funds.
Check two things before continuing: the wallet address and the network. If you manage more than one account in MetaMask, use the account that holds the token you want to swap. Then confirm that the network matches where the token lives.
Choose the token you are paying with. This may be shown as the "from" token, sell token, or input token.
For major tokens, searching by symbol is usually simple. For smaller tokens, use the contract address instead. Fake tokens can copy names and tickers, so do not rely only on a familiar-looking symbol.
If this is your first time, start with a small amount. Think of it as learning the workflow before sending a larger trade.
Now select the token you want to receive. This is the "to" token, buy token, or output token.
